ADSL Internet services

Faster Internet Access and retain your current Melb PC e-mail address.

Through an agency partnership with WestNet, Melb PC members may enjoy an ADSL broadband Internet connection, and still have access to services offered by the Melb PC Internet Service including their Melb PC e-mail address. ADSL provides a faster Internet connection than dial-up access. It also has no time restrictions or telephone call costs and you can use your telephone while you are connected to the Internet.

How To Apply
Applications for new ADSL connections can be made on the sign up web page. If applying with the form and making payment by direct debit, a Direct Debit Form is also needed. Completed forms can be faxed or mailed to our office or to WestNet directly.

If using the application form and paying by direct debit, please download and complete both the ADSL Application Form and Direct Debit Form.

If transferring an ADSL connection from another ISP that participates in the ADSL transfer process, please complete both the ADSL Application Form and the ADSL Transfer Form.

The article "ADSL Arrives at Melb PC!", from the June issue of PC Update, discusses choosing plans and hardware if you need some guidance. Since the article was written more ADSL modems are available from WestNet.

How To Set Up Your Computer
Once your ADSL connection has been provisioned and your WestNet account set up, you need to install the ADSL modem and configure it. The article "Setting Up Your WestNet ADSL", from the June issue of PC Update, shows how to install a NetComm modem on a USB connection and how to configure it using the easy configuration program. Once this is done you should be able to browse the web and download your Melb PC e-mail immediately.

If you have any problems installing and configuring your ADSL modem or getting the ADSL connection to work, please contact WestNet Support.

Using MelbPC's Internet Services
Downloading your MelbPC email should work immediately without any adjustments. To send mail from your Melb PC e-mail account you will need to alter the outgoing mail server setting to smtpwest.melbpc.org.au in order for it to work.

Westnet will commence charging a fee for a static IP address from 2007. Should you not wish to pay this fee, ensure that "Static IP" is turned off from the Technical Section in the Your Account page on Westnet. Your can display your IP and see if it is a static or dynamic address at IP check. This URL will check your current IP and advise whether it is a Westnet static IP address or not. Access to the Message Of The Day page is always available by clicking on the Secure Access link on the Melb PC Home Page and using your Melb PC account username and password to login.

Before your Melb PC Internet subscription expires, or when you ask for a refund for an unused period, please complete the Melb PC Internet access agreement for an Associate subscription with your current username in order to retain your e-mail address.

If you have any problems using any of Melb PC's Internet services, i.e. your Melb PC mail account, web site, news or the MOTD, please contact Melb PC Internet Help.
