Configuring Eudora to filter spam

This page details how to configure Eudora 5.2 to filter e-mail marked as possible spam by MelbPC's mail server. Currently ??Spam?? is added at the beginning of the subject line so the filtering is based on this.

Step 1

Start Eudora and then Tools > Filters.

Step 2

Tick Incoming.

For Header select Subject.

Select contains and enter ??Spam??.

Step 3

For Action select Transfer To.

Step 4

Click on the bar that appears to the right of Transfer To (probably labelled In).

Select New.

Step 5

For Name the new mailbox enter a name - Spam in this example.

If you have existing filters move the new ??Spam?? filter up or down the list as desired. Positioning at the bottom may cause false positives (real mail mislabelled as spam aka ham) to end up in the Spam folder. Positioning at the top may cause more true positives (spam labelled as spam) to end up with real mail. Note that the filters process in order from bottom to top.

Step 6

If you routinely receive e-mail such as newsletters that are labelled with ??Spam?? you can create a filter to process it before the ??Spam?? filter.

Once created move the Newsletter filter to the bottom of the filter list so it processes e-mail first.
