Configuring Forte Agent/Free Agent
for News
Agent/Free Agent Ver.1.93 Newsreader program operates as a single program. It is not now 'Freeware'. After downloading, you may try out the full program for 30 days, after which you can purchase a copy/get a Registration Key, or retain it as Free Agent minus some features. Both are fully functional USENET clients that support all the basic functions associated with Newsgroups.

Screen dumps shown below are for Ver. 1.93 [Jan, 2003] and may differ slightly from other versions.
The following is a guide to configuring Agent or Free Agent for the
Melb PC Internet Service for sending and receiving messages to
Newsgroups:
| Step 1.
Preferences
After opening Free Agent, select
Options and then User and System Profile

| Step 2.
User Preferences.
On the User tab enter the three lines of information similar to that shown:
E-mail address:
Full Name: and
Organization:
The radio button to Login with a username and password is checked along with
Remember Password between sessions Enter your Username and Password in the relevant spaces.
Click the System tab. |

| Step 3.
System
There are two
entries required here:
News Server: news.melbpc.org.au Where the radio button indicates send email messages with SMTP, enter:
Email Server: smtp.melbpc.org.au
Other tab pages may be ignored or changed to suit individual preferences.
