Adding another
Identity to
Netscape
Often there is a need to add another Identity
to Netscape Messenger. This may be for the same person to use the services of another
or additional ISP, or for a
separate account for another person.
The illustrations shown are based on Netscape 4.75 and there may be
slight differences in appearance in other versions, however the configuration
details are unchanged.
| Step 1. Starting a new User
Profile
From the Desktop go to Start,
Programs, then Netscape, and then to User Profile
Manager.
|

|
| Step 2.
Profile Manager
The Profile Manager lists
all existing
profiles, and click Add to create an
additional user.
|

|
| Step 3.
Creating a New Profile
The new Netscape window
explains some of the details.
To commence creating
the New User Profile click on Next.
|

|
| Step 4.
Enter name for the new User.
Enter the Full name of the new user in the box.
Enter the E-mail address in the box
provided.
Continue by clicking Next.
|

|
| Step 5.
Choosing a new User Profile Name
It is necessary to
create a unique Profile Name to clearly identify this set of
configuration.
In this example we have
added
the new unique name stanleyj
|

|
| Step 6.
Outgoing Mail Server
In the Outgoing mail
(SMTP) server insert the appropriate address for Melb PC or another ISP.
For Melb PC users this
would be:
smtp.melbpc.org.au
At this stage you can
continue entering configuration details by clicking Next.
A preferable
alternative is to click Finish and continue entering the
configuration details through the Preferences Tool
|

|
Step 7. Configuring the New Profile using Preferences.
At this stage Netscape Communicator
will start automatically, and it is possible to enter all configuration details
quickly through the Preferences Tool.
This is detailed in full at Netscape
Configuration.
|
| Step 8.
Profile Manager
In future, whenever Netscape is opened
you will be greeted with the Profile Manager window as shown at the
right.
By selecting the User Profile from
the
drop-down menu and clicking
on Start Communicator, Netscape will then
open with the configuration and separate data folders applicable
to that
user.
