Configuring MS Outlook
Express for News
The following is a step-by-step guide to configuring MS Outlook
Express and for the Melb PC Internet Service for sending and
receiving messages to Newsgroups. The illustrations used are from
Outlook Express v5.5 and may vary slightly from later versions
however the configuration information is the same.
Other Microsoft
Mail programs are similar in most regards, and the Outlook
Express information should be adequate for complete
configuration.

1.
Open Outlook Express, and
select Tools and select Accounts from the
dropdown menu.

2. Click on Add and select News from
the new window

In the next window enter
your Real Name of the user in the box provided.
Click Next to go
to the next window.

4.
In the next window enter
the full e-mail address in the box provided.
Click Next to go to the next window.

5.
In the News
(NNTP) server box enter: news.melbpc.org.au
Click Next to go to the next window.

6.
This stage of the configuration is
complete so click on Finish
You will then be returned to the Internet Accounts window
shown below.

The new mail configuration is shown
under the News tab.
Click on Properties to complete the configuration.

Under the General tab most of
the configuration entered earlier will already appear in this
window.
In the box alongside Organi zation enter: Melbourne PC User Group, Australia Note: This Organisation address is the only
acceptable one for Melb PC subscribers.
The Reply address should be left blank
unless you wish replies to be directed to an alternative e-mail
address.

9.
The remaining three tab
windows should not require any modification, and are shown
at right and below to provide a check of
the configuration details.

10.
Before finishing, selections to
your individual preferences may be made.
Return to Tools and from the dropdown menu select
Options.

12.
Go to the Connection tab and
ensure both boxes under Dial-up are left unchecked.
This will eliminate most problems that can be associated
with Diallers.
It is possible to personalise your mailer program in a number or
ways by modifying settings in the other tabs shown in the background
of this image. Any of these changes should not affect the successful
sending and receiving of newsgroup messages.
