Proxy Server Settings for Web Browsers

Melbourne PC User Group uses a transparent proxy server. This means that, although a proxy server is used, no proxy settings are required in your browser. In former times proxy settings were needed and many users may still have such settings. It is recommended that the settings be cleared as they could cause problems in future. 

Note: If you able to send and receive mail but not able to access external web sites, the problem could be a proxy server setting problem but may also be due to the use of a connection through the Intranet phone number.

The recommended proxy settings for most common browsers are described below. Other browsers should be configured following their help menus, with proxy server set to none or direct connection to the Internet

Netscape v4.x 

Click on  EDIT  |  PREFERENCES
On the drop down menu under Category, open the sub-menu under Advanced by single-clicking the symbol or double-clicking the word. Click on Proxies, and tick Direct connection to the Internet then click on OK.

Netscape v7 

Click on  EDIT  |  PREFERENCES
On the drop down menu under Category, open the Advanced sub-menu by single-clicking the symbol or double-clicking the word. Click on Proxies, and check that Direct connection to the Internet is ticked, then click on OK.

Microsoft Internet Explorer versions 5 and 6

Click on  | TOOLS  | INTERNET OPTIONS  |and  CONNECTION tab.

For each of the Melb PC diallers listed on the Connections tab, select Settings. Ensure all the automatic configuration and proxy server boxes are unticked.
