Automatically reduce the size of photos for email, IM, blogging and web galleries.

Shrink Pic runs in the background. It has a taskbar icon which tells you it's waiting for photos to be sent.

Then, when it detects that you're sending a large photo, it automatically creates a temporary copy, resizes it and sends it instead. It gives you a notice message, so you'll know the photo you sent was resized. Of course, the original photo doesn't change, only the temporary copy.

You can control how Shrink Pic resizes your photos. Select between three automatic resize levels or enter your own custom sizes. Shrink Pic also recognises rotated photos (portrait layout) and resizes them intelligently, so you don't need to worry about that too.

Disk Tools

DiskDigger - Ver: 0.6.3

DiskDigger can recover files from any type of media that your computer can read. This includes USB flash drives, memory cards (SD, CompactFlash, Memory Stick, etc), and of course your hard drive. The types of files that it recovers includes photos, videos, music, documents, and other formats.

DiskDigger works by thoroughly scanning each sector of your media for traces of files. This has some advantages and disadvantages (read on to find out).

Flipside of the Divine - Ver: Beta

Flipside of the Divine is a nifty game with a unique mechanical and an original look. You are a nameless Aztec-looking guy who must run from platform to platform, avoiding snakes and other monsters while struggling to reach the exit.

What sets this apart from many other games is that thinking is more important than reflexes, though reflexes surely help. The 'key' is that you must walk over, or jump to, assorted flat panels, like floor tiles hanging suspended in the void. Some of the tiles, though, are 'flipped' so that they are open--you will fall through to your screaming death. Fortunately, you have a magic bird that will flip the five tiles in front of you - closed become open, open become closed. It doesn't matter how near or far the tiles are - it's always five. This is the key.

Sound simple enough? Add in tiles that can't flip, and, even worse, tiles that shatter when flipped--removing them from the map and leaving nothing but empty space. Oh, and hungry snakes, which flip tiles as they pass along the map. And some tiles can't be jumped to or landed on. You can identify the different tiles by different graphics--shattering tiles look different from flippable ones, which are different from 'locked' tiles which neither flip nor shatter, and so on. Each level is a logic puzzle as well as a jumping game; the most obvious route is often the wrong one, and must use the ever-evolving "rules" of the world to solve the puzzle and reach the exit.

Flipside of the Divine is a lot of fun, if sometimes frustrating. The controls are a bit simple, the graphics fairly primitive--but it's original and free, both of which count for a lot. Despite the game being in beta, I found no stability issues. The application notes a small number of known issues and quick fixes, should you experience them. One of them is, if you get a black screen, press the letter 'r'.

Harold's Hills - Ver: 1.0

Harold the Homeboy picks up where Santa left off in this free sequel to the popular Icy Tower casual game. In this simple, addictive, and fun game, you guide Harold's toboggan down an endless slope, picking up gifts and dropping them off in the chimneys of snowed-in houses.

The more presents you pick up before a drop off, the more points you get. But each present picked up makes your sled go faster.

You can also get points by bouncing off tree stumps like a pinball (points which multiply with more than one adjacent stump), but rocks and full-sized trees will wipe you out with one hit.

Controls are a simple left-right arrow key scheme. The instructions say that the down arrow controls your speed, but I didn't find that the down arrow had any affect on gameplay whatsoever.

Graphics are simple 2D and charming, and the multiple "Yeah!" sound effects when you pick up a present are cute. However, the music is grating and is better when not present. Harold the Homeboy is freeware, hence the publisher's name: Free Lunch Design.

Othello (or Reversi) is the easy to play, classic board game that has been re-created in glorious 3D for your pleasure.

CPU TrueSpeed software is designed to calculate the actual speed (frequency) of the microprocessor (CPU) in your computer.

The speed of the CPU is rated by how many cycles it runs per second. This speed is measured in Hertz (Hz). 1 Hz is one cycle per second. A Pentium III computer, for example, with a CPU rating of 500 MHz has a speed of 500 million cycles per second.
