"Every now and then we find ourselves squinting at a tiny image or too-small text on our computer screen. When you need something to be just a little bit bigger, but don't want to go to the trouble of changing your screen resolution, use Moo0 Magnifier.

This deceptively simple program is a useful tool for quickly and temporarily magnifying what's on your computer screen.

The program doesn't have an interface to speak of; it appears unobtrusively as an icon in the system tray. Users simply access the settings by right-clicking on the icon and select the key that they want to use for magnification from six options. We chose the Control key. Then users simply continue using their computer as usual. When something needs to be enlarged, hit the chosen key, and the screen zooms in on the area where the mouse cursor is for as long as the button is held down. While the program is magnifying, users can pan around the screen using their mouse. Releasing the key takes the screen back to normal. That's really all there is to it. It's a very simple utility, but very useful for both those with poor vision and users who encounter hard-to-see elements every now and then. Every now and then it's nice to know the name lurking behind the number, whether you're trying to identify the sender of a shady e-mail, a visitor to your Web site, or someone else. IPNetInfo is an easy-to-use tool that quickly delivers all available information about a given IP address. It's nothing fancy, but it's good at what it does.

Using IPNetInfo is quite simple. Users enter one or more IP addresses into a box and click OK. Flush / Review DNS IP:
Most DNS clients cache the results of name resolution requests. This means that the DNS clients will temporarily store the web site names that you have been visiting lately. This process speeds up name resolution if multiple lookups are done to the same address, such as is common when browsing the web. Hence, if you visit Yahoo.com second time, the DNS client will already have the name mapped and hence will retrieve the mapping quickly. Sometimes a bad DNS entry will be cached and you will need to either flush the DNS cache to get rid of it.

Re-register IE:
There are collections of routines that are stored until a program uses them. If these files are corrupt or out of date, they can cause problems with your computer. To fix this problem, re-register the .dull files.

Reset IE:
If the problem is caused by damaged or incompatible Internet Explorer settings or add-ons, you can usually resolve the problem by resetting Internet Explorer settings.

Reset Winsock:
Most of the Internet connectivity problems arise out of corrupt Winsock settings. Windows sockets settings may get corrupted due to the installation of a networking software, or perhaps due to Malware infestation. You will be able connect to the Internet, but the packets won't transfer back and forth. Resetting Winsock might fix the issue.

While any decent firewall program will let you block hosts one by one, PeerBlock does a huge amount of the work for you, by providing several frequently-updated lists of host addresses. These are divided into spyware, advertising, education, and peer-to-peer. Those last two might raise some eyebrows. The "Education" list is primarily aimed at those using college networks, who do not want their college monitoring their activity. The "P2P" list is a collection of media companies, who regularly scan people on file sharing networks to find out who is pirating movies and music. While there are often legitimate reasons to want to have such protection, it should be noted that PeerBlock freely admits it doesn't provide total security--and if you are violating your college's or ISP's terms of Internet usage, or engaging in illegal activity, this program (or any similar tool) is not going to keep you safe.

Getting the most out of PeerBlock requires a little bit of technical savvy. Simply letting it run with everything cranked to the max caused quite a few problems with Web sites; many hung due to being unable to talk to many of the advertisers on the site. There is a convenient option to allow any communication on the HTTP ports through, however. Depending on how your computer connects to the Internet and the settings of your firewall and ISP, you may need to tweak some things. Fortunately, PeerBlock has a clean and easy-to-understand interface, as well as a public forum.

It is easy to add new blocklists, or to unblock a particular range of addresses for a short period, or forever.

How much use PeerBlock is to you depends on your security needs and your level of paranoia, justified or otherwise. It is a useful first line of defence against sharing information with people you don't want to share information with, but it's not absolute, and the size and scope of the lists could cause some surprises or odd behaviour, especially if you forget that it's running. I would consider it generally worth trying, if only for the experience of seeing just how many sites are trying to talk to your computer during an average browsing session.

TrueCrypt is a software designed to protect your important data by encrypting it. It can also maintain an on-the-fly-encrypted volume (data storage device).

Files can be copied to and from a mounted TrueCrypt volume just like they are copied to/from any normal disk (for example, by simple drag-and-drop operations). Files are automatically being decrypted on-the-fly (in memory/RAM) while they are being read or copied from an encrypted TrueCrypt volume.

Similarly, files that are being written or copied to the TrueCrypt volume are automatically being encrypted on-the-fly (right before they are written to the disk) in RAM. Note that this does not mean that the whole file that is to be encrypted/decrypted must be stored in RAM before it can be encrypted/decrypted. There are no extra memory (RAM) requirements for TrueCrypt.

The main viewing purpose of SpeedFan is to show its user what's really going in their machine. When minimised, a temperature reading is showed on the button right of the desktop. First of all, you have to identify which temperature sensor is which. SpeedFan strictly adheres to available data sheets for each sensor chip. Please remember that hardware monitors are chips that do have some pins (small connectors) which should be connected to some additional hardware (temperature probes, thermistors or thermocouples) in order to be able to read temperatures.

Only a few hardware monitor chips do label their connectors with "CPU", "System" and the like. Most of them use labels like "Temp1", "Local" or "Remote". The hardware manufacturers connect available pins to different temperature sensors basically according to the physical placement of components on the motherboard.

This means that the same chip, an ITE IT8712F, for example, might be connected to a sensor diode measuring CPU temperature on Temp2 and, on a different hardware, it might be connected on Temp1. If you have a "Local" sensor and a "Remote" labeled one, this usually means that "Local" is the temperature of the monitor chip itself and "Remote" is the temperature read from a "remote" probe.

When you have properly identified which temperature sensor is which, try to lower the speed of each fan and look at reported speed and temperatures. If you do not allow SpeedFan to change any fan speed and set all the speeds too low, then SpeedFan won't be able to avoid overheating.

"We've come across so many faulty video players that it's hard to contain ourselves when we find one that works. This particular one lets you search and download your favourite videos from YouTube, Google, and Yahoo.

Tube Explorer Lite took us by surprise. At first glance, we weren't overly impressed by its user interface. The tabbed, paneled view looked pretty generic. However, the tree-menu style search feature let us quickly drill down and find our favourite videos, and we were also able to search by keyword. It only took a few seconds for each video to download, and we were able to view them directly from the program's interface. It's easy to find the videos you download when you reopen the program. They're saved in their own tab, and you can customize the interface to your liking.

We love that this video player went for function over form. It's not showy by any means, but it just plain works. And for that, we highly recommend it to all users."
