Melb PC Election - 1 November 2000
David Owen |
|
There was one nomination for each of the executive positions and the
following were declared elected at the Annual General meeting held on 1 November 2000:
| President: |
George Skarbek |
| Vice President: |
Dave Botherway |
| Secretary: |
John Swale |
| Treasurer: |
William Ford. |
Nine nominations were received for the eight positions for
Committee. Three hundred and thirty four valid votes were cast and the following eight candidates were
declared elected at the AGM:
Ian Dewhurst
R. Barry Martin
Roswitha Aigner
Margaret Brown
David King
Noel Peters
Ray Beatty
William Dair. |
Votes cast were:
| Postal: |
47 valid, 1 received after closing |
| By proxy: |
182 valid, 2 invalid, |
| In person: |
105 valid, 3 invalid. |
Initially it was not necessary to count the number of
individual votes for each candidate but rather to ascertain the candidate with the least number of votes.
This was done on the night and the eight successful candidates were announced. I was asked to provide the
exact number of votes for each candidate and these were counted on 4 December 2000 at my office by myself and
by two other members of Melb PC.
The votes cast were:
Ian Dewhurst
Don McKenzie
R. Barry Martin
Roswitha Aigner
Margaret Brown
David King
Noel Peters
Ray Beatty
William Dair |

The advertised date for the close of nominations in PC
Update was 5.00 pm on Friday 29 September 2000 when the Rules provide that nominations close not less
than 28 days before the date of the AGM. ie. Tuesday 3 October 2000. One nomination for committee was
received after 29 September 2000 but before close of business on 3 October 2000. That nomination was accepted
as being valid and in accordance with the Rules. The difference occurred due to the earlier closure date of
PC Update, but in any event, no candidate was prejudiced.
I thank Trica Swan and Margaret Greer from the Melb PC office, plus Talbot Hill and
Les Hill who assisted on the detailed count, volunteers and poll clerks, for their assistance with the
election this year. It is much appreciated and saves Melb PC money in not having to employ others to do these
jobs.
