PageMaker 7 - For the

Publication Production using PageMaker focuses on a specific aspect
of using version 7 of PageMaker "for the production of newspapers, newsletters, magazines, and other
formatted publications". Of special interest is the fact that this is an Australian publication and the
author, Gordon Woolf, is well known for his remarkable depth of knowledge of PageMaker.
In this title he provides a supplement to the manuals designed to lead the user - who is assumed to be
familiar with PageMaker - to effective and time saving solutions.
The book is about production, not design (although there is a short, sharp item, Some general layout
hints that spells out some important design rules). Among the many practical things the book shows how to
do are: create templates and styles, create and use tags, perform a data merge (one of PM7's significant new
plug-in features), and use PageMaker's scripting language. The examples used to illustrate the text
are in the context of newspaper production, but are applicable to most multipage publications.
A valuable feature of the book is its many hints; the author has become a reference point for
professional PageMaker users who feed in their experiences, problems, and solutions (which are sometimes hit
upon by chance). Anyone who uses PageMaker on a regular basis will find these hints a resource in their own
right.
The book is supported by a Web site that contains a wealth of resources including scripts and templates as
well as other information; it also has details for PageMakr List, an e-mail list of more than a
thousand PageMaker users worldwide. Visit http://www.worsleypress.com.
Not for novices, but an important resource for regular users of PageMaker.
