Members will notice that we now talk about GIGs (General Interest Groups) and SIGs (Special Interest Groups) to clearly differentiate between the two. If you attend a GIG you will discuss, ask questions, expect answers, ruminate or debate any aspect of computer technology. On the other hand if you go to, say, the Video Editing SIG, that is the specific subject on which members plan to discuss, obtain help, assist others, or perhaps even air some prejudices. Generally, but not always, the GIGs are in the suburbs close to where our members live, and are run during the daytime. We are currently working towards a point where each of the GIGs and SIGs will have an up-to-date home page established on our own melbpc.org.au servers, as befits Australia's leading computer user group. Firstly these pages are free of extraneous advertisements; they also tell you about the GIG's or SIG's next meeting time, place and topic and provide a contact e-mail link to the convener. The address of each page is given in the following lists. Have a look at the blue ones; at the time of writing these are up and running on our server. Bookmark them and go back later to learn what goes on daily in your club. Reprinted from the June 2002 issue of PC Update, the magazine of Melbourne PC User Group, Australia |
