Returning Officer's Report - 2002
Doug Brooke

7 November, 2002

Secretary
Melbourne PC User Group Inc.
P0 Box 283 SOUTH
MELBOURNE

Dear Mr Swale,

I furnish herewith my report of the election of committee members held at the Annual General Meeting of Melbourne PC User Group Inc on Wednesday 6 November 2002.

Annual Election Results

The breakup of votes cast was as follows:
Postal
Meeting
Proxies
Invalid
Total

29
131
198
2
360

There were ten candidates for the eight vacant committee member positions and the results of the election are:

Successful candidates
Ray Beatty
Ash Nallawalla Barry Martin
David King
Diana Allen
Dennis Olsen
William Dair
Frank Maher

309
304
295
292
284
284
278
275

Unsuccessful candidates
Morris Tobias 123
Lyn Mitchell 105

123
105

The small number of invalid votes is pleasing but the total number of votes cast is disappointing considering the number of members comprising Melbourne PC User Group.

I thank Trish Swan and the office staff for the preparatory work carried out prior to the voting, the volunteers who manned the polling desks and the volunteers who so ably counted the votes and checked the count.

Finally I think the Group should be able to do much better and encourage more members to vote than the 3.4% of our membership who voted this year. I am strongly of the view that future elections should be
conducted by postal ballot and I recommend that this method should be instigated for the 2003 elections.

Yours sincerely,

D A Brooke
