Choice On Troubleshooting

The Australian Consumers' Association - an independent, non-profit organisation - has published some
useful guides for computer users, as well as its excellent magazine,
Computer Choice. This title, The Computer Choice Computer
Troubleshooter, was originally published in England and has been adapted and updated by Choice
Books.
It is not so much about troubleshooting computers as managing - and troubleshooting - Windows, and
upgrading Windows-based machines. Choice publications make exceptionally good use of graphics, such
as the illustrations of hardware installations in this title. The overall graphic design, including
text boxes and screen shots, makes for good communication of technical information. The book demystifies
many aspects of computing and is a great confidence builder for those who would like to do some of their
own hardware maintenance.
The format is FAQ, but without always posing the questions. The book addresses the kind of things that
users, especially novices, want to know, and points them to further resources. A resource that every
new user should have.
