Secret DVD Business
- for the bookshelf

The release of films on DVD has brought with it a surprising collection of extra
material, including alternative endings, deleted scenes, and bloopers. Some of
it is easy to find, but many Easter eggs - as the extras are called - require a
cheat sheet.
Not so long ago a book, DVD Confidential, was published with
where-to-find-the-eggs instructions. A sequel, DVD Confidential 2: the sequel,
has just been released with details of some 260 films on DVD.
A typical routine reads like this: "Insert the first DVD and choose 'select a
scene' from the main menu. Scroll to the last page (25-27) and navigate down to
the words, 'The Council of Elrond'. Now press the Down Arrow on the DVD remote
and a gold ring will appear on the screen. Press Enter to watch a humorous
'alternative' version of this famous scene, cooked by MTV. Hilarious!".
Some of the eggs are ho-hum, but there are enough buried gems to make this book
worth browsing.
