QuickBooks for Dummies
- for the bookshelf

The Australian edition of QuickBooks for Dummies, which is supported by
a Web site http://www.quicken.com.au has been written for Australian users of
the Lite, Small Business, Small Business Plus, and Pro Australian versions. The
Australian distributor re-codes the software to meet local requirements, both
regulatory and practice.
The book does not, as the title suggests, assume any special knowledge of
bookkeeping or accounting. However, the reader is expected to have a reasonable
knowledge of running Windows. Apart from readers who are new to using an
accounting package, or don't have much experience, the book is a useful guide
for anyone who wants to assess the suitability of QuickBooks for particular
applications, especially in respect of which of its various versions is best for
a given purpose.
The book is in parts: an introduction explains how to set up data files to suit
your requirements, and how find your way around the program; Part 2 is about
recording transactions (money in, money out); Part 3, Taking Care of Business,
is about keeping track of accounts receivable, accounts payable, stock control,
and how to create forms and templates to suit your requirements; Part 4
discusses payroll, budgeting, and other "added
touches".
How to handle the dreaded GST and BAS with QuickBooks is explained along with
other tax matters. Readers are also shown how to take advantage of the Internet
for transactions. Also discussed in detail are the all important tasks of
balancing the books, reconciling accounts, and creating reports. QuickBooks is
not a big-gun accounting package, but it is surprisingly powerful; QuickBooks
for Dummies is a good introduction. Its technical depth is such that it may be
the only reference many users will need.
