Nallawalla describes a program that manages links between Web sites - it's
for those who want their Web site to gain a higher ranking with search
engines and enjoy wider exposure on the Internet |
Last month we looked at Axandra IBP and this month we look at its sister product
Axandra Reciprocal Links Solution (ARELIS). It is also for owners of Web sites
who require links, so what is the difference?
Reciprocal Links
The key difference between IBP and ARELIS is that the latter is designed to
manage reciprocal links, that is, two sites link back to each other. Links from
sites or pages that share your site's theme are more valuable than links from
some random site. IBP submits your site to search engines and directories. You
really need both types of links because there are just a handful of automated
search engines and directories that are valuable to your ranking, whereas there
are potentially thousands of individuals who can give you a reciprocal link.

Figure 2. Supplying keywords that can help to find related sites |
In an ideal world, other sites will link to yours and you will not need to link
to others, but that privilege is reserved for only the truly popular sites. For
the rest of us, we have to create a contrived popularity, something that is
barely tolerated by the search engines because they cannot determine
programmatically whether this linkage is genuine or contrived.
If you have a Links page that you maintain manually, it will eventually grow to
the point that you cannot keep checking that the linked site has kept the link
to yours. Many unscrupulous people do just that - they tell you that they have
linked to you and ask for a link back. Some time after you oblige, they take
down their link to you.
Automated Link Exchange
ARELIS automates this task. First, you describe your own Web site, which is the
information sent to potential link partners. Then it searches the Web and finds
what it considers to be potential link partners. It can do this in one of three
ways:
- Sites that link to your competitors
- Keywords you specify
- Sites similar to those that already link to you
ARELIS sends e-mails to the potential link partners and so you are strongly
encouraged to personalise the boilerplate text. After all, you don't want your
e-mail to look like an e-mail from another ARELIS user.
A 59-page Beginner's Guide in PDF format is supplied, making these steps easy to
understand.
Availability
ARELIS can be downloaded for a 30-day trial from
http://www.axandra.com. You can
buy the Personal edition for US$99.95. If you manage links for others, the
Business edition will set you back US$299.95. A new ARELIS version is planned
for this year and it will be a free update for registered users.
