Laptops for Oz - for the bookshelf
Major Keary

From time to time Wiley adapts titles to the Australian market; in this instance Paul Wallbank has localised Laptops for Dummies. The object of the book is to provide a guide for anyone in the market for a laptop computer and a user manual. Many factors remain constant — such as the lack of documentation — but there are other issues that have been adjusted or added to Dan Gookin's original (America-oriented) title. In short, you don't need both books.

If you are thinking of buying a laptop the cost of this title is a cheap price to pay for sound advice that begins with, do I need a laptop?. Given the same 'power' (CPU, memory, capacity for connecting peripherals, storage space, etc.) there is a significant difference in the price of a laptop and a desktop machine. There are other factors in making a choice and they are discussed.

The book is WinXP-centric and does not discuss issues relating to other operating systems (such as Mac and Linux).
