Firstly, I'd like to thank everyone for their words of encouragement about
the last edition of PC Update. All of us here greatly appreciate it I
assure you.
Now I've been wondering about something the last few weeks. PC Update
goes out to every member of Melb PC and a good number get distributed to public
places such as doctor's surgeries in order to encourage the general public to
join. In other words, an awful lot of eyeballs see PC Update each month.
And did you know that PC Update has a circulation many commercial
magazines would envy? Sure there are publications such as New Idea and their ilk
and a select few "men's magazines" that have huge readership (and I mean
motoring and sports magazines - I know what you were thinking!) but these are
the exception rather than the rule. Take a look in any newsagent and see just
how many magazines there are - and the number of titles is growing, not
shrinking. So much for the theory that people only want to read on web sites
these days. I reckon Messrs. Packer, Murdoch and Stokes are smarter than me, and
they're still publishing big time.
Anyway, the point I want to make is that if
you're in business, PC Update is a perfect vehicle to advertise and get known
to those eyeballs. You don't have to have a business that's IT oriented or
gadget driven. Even "geeks" buy "normal stuff" :)
It's also well known that members prefer to deal with members - my best mate
has had a Tyrepower dealership for over 30 years, and 80% of his business comes
from people in swimming, hockey, basketball and surf clubs he belongs to.
Advertising in PC Update isn't expensive at all, and at the same time
