The magazine of the Melbourne PC User Group

Time for another newsletter, and more changes.

During the production of the issue for September, last minute changes were introduced to give it a more National flavour suitable for use by User Groups throughout Australia. With this issue we have had time to completely revamp the whole Newsletter and it now appears in a form you can expect in the foreseeable future.

For many reasons, we are trying to produce a newsletter without the need for type-setting. Quite a lot of work has gone into producing an acceptable printed output directly from computer text files. What do you think of it?

A new member has joined the Newsletter staff. From the next issue the Lotus column will be compiled and edited by Leon Shappiro of the Melbourne PC User Group. Thanks for your assistance Leon, I know of your expertise with 1-2-3 and Symphony and am sure that the readers will gain from all of your experience.

Welcome to all members of both the Perth and Sydney PC User Groups. Together we start to represent a significant portion of PC users in Australia. Now we have The Australian PC User Association, best described as an umbrella organization for PC User Groups throughout Australia, its main functions being the production of a single newsletter for all Groups, and the provision of a national Public Domain Software Library service.

The change to a National Newsletter has necessitated variations to the content, specifically in the area of providing news about each individual user Group. I expect that this column will evolve with time. We would now like some feedback. Does it meet your needs? How can we improve it?

1985

Planning for the newsletters for 1985 is well in hand. Comprehensive details will be included in the December issue, but we will be expecting contributions from local authors. At the moment it is mainly a one-way street with a majority of the material coming from overseas. It is now time to prove that we have also learned how to write.

Given the preparation calendar and themes proposed for each of 1985 newsletters, we will want your suggestions and contributions. The size of the newsletter at the moment is only limited by the time available for preparation. With more volunteers and more material, we will publish more.
