The magazine of the Melbourne PC User Group

Prez Said
Lloyd Borrett

This is a very special issue.

Those who attended the last meeting, are aware that a call was made for volunteers to assist run this User Group. Not one person was prepared to assist in any way. Poor show.

We needed a new President. Fortunately during the week Felix Hofmann offered his services. Thank you Felix for taking on this job at a crucial time. Now we need others to follow his example. We are a group of Users helping each other, not a benevolent society for a privileged few. Your assistance is needed to keep the newsletters going.

With out some assistance, this Group is likely to fold up very shortly.

The purpose of this special issue then is to acquaint you with the needs of the group showing the positions we have vacant and giving some detail of the duties of those positions. These are however rather flexible. We need all the assistance we can get, no offers of help are refused. Duties of the various positions can be adjusted to cater for whatever time you can make available.

Current executive members are overloaded. With your help each can have a reasonably small work load.

Look carefully at the following information. Consider where can help. Contact anyone on the executive if you are willing to assist, or come to the next meeting with a nomination for someone or be willing to help yourself.

In memoriam

The Executive were saddened to learn of the death last week of the Group's most valuable member - Someone Else.

Someone's passing creates a vacancy that will be difficult to fill. Else had been with the Group since its beginning. He did far more than the normal persons share of work. Whenever there was job to do, meetings to be attended, jobs to be organised, one name was on everyone's lips: "Let Someone Else do it".

It was common knowledge that Someone Else was among the largest contributors of his time to the Group. Whenever there was a need for volunteers, everyone just assumed that Someone Else would be in it.

Someone Else was a wonderful person, sometimes appearing superhuman, but a person can only do so much. Were the truth known, everyone expected too much of Someone Else.

Now Someone Else's gone. We wonder what we are going to do. Someone Else left a wonderful example to follow, but who is going to do the things that Someone Else did"

When you are asked to help ,[ remember: WE CAN'T RELY ON SOMEONE ELSE - HE'S PASSED ON".

The Executive of the Group has created this non-Executive position, with the aim of having a single person responsible for coordination of each meeting night of the Group.

Topics for meetings have in the past come from many quarters; from members of the Group, from the Executive, and requests have come from outside people wishing to put on presentations for us.

The occupant of this position would be required to:

  1. coordinate the arrangements for a speaker on each meeting night
  2. ensure that the meeting room is arranged with the appropriate audio/visual equipment for the night provided by the Building Operators!. The room has already been booked for the full year.
  3. be on hand at 5.15pm on each meeting night to meet speakers as they arrive
  4. to assist speakers/demonstrators with the setup of any of their equipment
  5. If sufficient volunteers can be found to act as Master Of Ceremonies for meetings, then to coordinate which of those persons will ME the meeting each month.
T his position is not a particularly onerous one, and could operate with an assistant. Are there any two people prepared to take this on.
