The magazine of the Melbourne PC User Group

Thanks go to John Rundle who has recently advised that he can no longer continue to write the dBASE column, due to pressures of work. John has been with the Group since the very early days, and his assistance has been appreciated. Is there anyone out there with a knowledge of dBASE (II S III) who is prepared to handle this column?

This is it then, my last Editorial. I have been very fortunate in this position to receive all sorts of information from overseas User Groups, a proportion of which goes in to making up this Newsletter. It has been a very informative time for me and I regret having to hand over the reins, but new blood may well see the Newsletter rise to new heights. The Editorial SIG now seems ready to take on the task, with a few additional people offering to help in the production. Each person who comes forward offering a small amount of time is encouragement to all the others.

For this issue, a special thanks goes to David Watson, who has helped in the production cycle by printing all of this material on his Letter Quality printer. This small step is one small cog in the wheel that goes round to create this Newsletter.

Editor's Plea

This is YOUR newsletter, and whether or not it rises to the heights of fame or the depths of ignominy depends mainly on you. I will happily receive and publish letters, biographies, articles, software, hardware and book reviews, nifty examples of programming, criticisms, social news, jokes, cartoons, war memoirs, small ads, big ads, and in fact anything that is either written, drawn or found on floppies. The only items that I reserve the right to refuse publication are vulgarities (in extremis), personal criticisms (especially of me) and anything of a libellous nature. Let's make this a far more Australian publication, and prove once more our own expertise.

One thing that has rather amazed those of us working on the Newsletter, has been the lack of feedback. Not one letter to the Editor has been received since I took on the task mid last year. They say "that all comes to those who wait", such is the case here as three letters were received the day before copy deadline of this issue. Thanks, the press must be a two way medium to be effective.

This Issue

Theme for this issue is Software Update, the aim being to provide you with even more information about new software packages, printing articles for which we have not had sufficient space before. The reviews cover a variety of types of software.

Next Issue

Deadline for submission of material to be included in the May issue of the Newsletter is 10 April. Theme for the issue is Hardware Update, though at this stage with virtually no material available on hardware, don't be surprised if something different turns up.
