Interesting Times

An old Chinese curse, it is said, goes, "May you live in interesting times". Melb PC's times have certainly been interesting, and continue to be so. As you will see elsewhere, we are moving and a fee increase - a subject dear to all our hearts - has been recommended

In the meantime PC Update continues. In this issue there is a mix of esoterica and the very basic, with what I hope is a good range in between. It was intended to make CD-ROM technology the theme for this issue; while there is quite a bit about that, responses to requests for review software were slow. Lots of press releases and PR handouts, but not much else.

CD-ROM technology is beyond most of our pockets, but so were hard disk drives, sound cards, VGA, and lots of other things. While some may hold the opinion that PC Update should confine itself to what most members are currently using, many of our members will be using CD-ROM equipment - if not this year, within the foreseeable future. Information published now will, I hope, provide valuable and interesting background for future users. I am sure it will be of interest to my fellow neophiles.

A number of encouraging messages addressed to the Editor have been received and I am grateful to those who have taken the time to express appreciation; mentioned in particular was the early delivery of PC Update. In order to ensure members receive their copy before monthly meetings it is necessary to enforce deadlines. I know that is irksome to some, but each process of production and delivery takes time. Stretching the limits results in late delivery, so in the general interest please get copy in early.
