Melb PC's National Access
Melb PC provides a premium service in the form of
a "National Number" which allows access from any Australia
location at local call rates.
This service is more expensive for Melb PC to provide, and
access is restricted to
those who are Full Internet Subscribers and have a genuine need for this special
access.
It is intended for those living permanently outside the telephone zones of
the Melbourne Telephone White Pages Directory Book, or when travelling interstate with a notebook computer.
This access is only available to Full Internet Subscribers who send a request by e-mail to
http://emailforms.melbpc.org.au/general/nationalnumber.ehtml.
Members who already have this National Access need not register again.
Do not contact the Office on this matter.
Allow 48 hours for confirmation of your registration and the return of the
necessary details.
Previously "Greater Melbourne" area
access.
What was previously referred to as the "Greater Melbourne" phone number
was intended for subscribers outside the immediate Melbourne local call provide access
to for the cost of a local call. This number was 0198 333 365.
This phone number and access will
be discontinued from 30 August 2009.
Members with Full Internet Subscriptions in
outer areas who cannot dial into the Melbourne exchanges for the cost of a local
call (basically those who are not or could be in the Melbourne Telephone White
Pages Directory Book) will need to change to the National Access Number.
The National Number provides dial-in local call rate access for all telephone
areas in Australia, however these lines are provided by another supplier and although Melb PC has
not heard of problems with charges at non-local rates, Melb PC cannot be
responsible for the charges, and subscribers should contact their phone provider
to check that these dialups are made for the cost of a local call.
The Melb PC National Number will remain available to all Melb PC Internet
dial-in subscribers only upon request at
http://emailforms.melbpc.org.au/general/nationalnumber.ehtml for use
outside the telephone zones of the Melbourne Telephone White Pages Directory
Book..
Time online using the "Greater Melbourne" number is counted in your total time, but is only displayed by the pop-up timer after logging in at Nadsec and selecting the "Timer Information" menu item.
Members dialing in from within the Melbourne Area should continue to use the 9697 4000 phone number as there are a many more dial-up lines available, and unnecessary use of the National number will deprive other members of ready access.
