How to Build a Web Site
Pre-requisites:
- A general understanding of personal computers and the windows environment is necessary as you will be required to start applications, work with and copy files and locate file folders.
- This course is designed for participants with little or no knowledge
of Dreamweaver.
It is for people who need to know how to use Dreamweaver to develop and build a web site. It is ideal for people who work in business or for clubs or charities where there is a requirement to publish a web site to the World Wide Web or local intranet in order to disseminate information or to advertise products and services.
Outcomes and Course Content:
At the completion of this course participants will be able to:
Understand how the Web works
• Start Dreamweaver and create, open and edit a simple website
• Create text for use in a web site
• Insert & position pictures and images
• Create and work with tables on a web page
• Create and work with hyperlinks on a web page
• Create a layout table and us it to lay out a web page
• Incorporate special features on your web site
• Create and work with forms on a web page
• Create and modify Dreamweaver pages
• Create and use dynamic web templates
• Check and publish a web site
Learning Approach / Method: A hands on approach is taken during this course. Participants are invited to produce their own site so they experience how to use the software to solve everyday problems and undertake routine tasks.
Pre-requisites: This course
assumes a basic working knowledge of Windows, the World Wide Web and browsing
the internet, file management and Editing. Some pre-thought about the type
of Website you would like to build will help, together with a strong sense
of curiosity and humour.
Learning Outcomes: Participants
will learn how to build a website for the World Wide Web using a range of
simple editing tools through to Dreamweaver.
Topics: Participants will be introduced to the following:
• Introduction to Website Planning and Design
• Principles of Good Web Page Design;
• Implementation and Management
• HTML Basics and HTML Editing (Text and GUI based)
• Introduction to HTML, fonts, images, colour, sound, tables
• A progressive introduction to the writing of a web page.
• Sourcing a variety of public domain scripting links
• How to transfer your web site to an ISP web-server using FTP
Materials: Participants will
be provided with a comprehensive HTML manual, software tool sets and web
references, documents, links and sample code. Participants should bring
their own pens and paper for additional notes plus a memory stick or writable
CD to save their own work.
