How to Build a Web Site

Outcomes and Course Content:

Learning Approach / Method: A hands on approach is taken during this course. Participants are invited to produce their own site so they experience how to use the software to solve everyday problems and undertake routine tasks.

Pre-requisites: This course assumes a basic working knowledge of Windows, the World Wide Web and browsing the internet, file management and Editing. Some pre-thought about the type of Website you would like to build will help, together with a strong sense of curiosity and humour.

Learning Outcomes: Participants will learn how to build a website for the World Wide Web using a range of simple editing tools through to Dreamweaver.

Topics: Participants will be introduced to the following:

• Introduction to Website Planning and Design
• Principles of Good Web Page Design;
• Implementation and Management
• HTML Basics and HTML Editing (Text and GUI based)
• Introduction to HTML, fonts, images, colour, sound, tables
• A progressive introduction to the writing of a web page.
• Sourcing a variety of public domain scripting links
• How to transfer your web site to an ISP web-server using FTP

Materials: Participants will be provided with a comprehensive HTML manual, software tool sets and web references, documents, links and sample code. Participants should bring their own pens and paper for additional notes plus a memory stick or writable CD to save their own work.
