Introduction to Microsoft Word
Prerequisites:
- Familiarity with the PC's, Windows environment including mouse, keyboard
and file management skills.
This course is designed for current and new users of Word Processing software and the objective is to provide a thorough understanding of the basic functions and facilities of Word for Windows.
By the end of the course you will be able to:
-
Format a standard letter or document using Character, Paragraph formats.
Move and Copy text within a document and between documents.
Working knowledge of the Auto Paragraph numbering and Bullet pointed paragraphs.
Run a spell check, and create and manipulate Columns using Tables.
Setting page breaks, changing Margins and inserting Headers and Footers.Topics
Students will be introduced to the following:-
Essentials, Starting Word.
The screen elements & moving about the screen.
Creating a document from scratch.
Opening and Closing Files.
Working on multiple documents.
Displaying toolbars.
Saving Files - the difference between 'Save'and 'Save as'Formatting Text and Paragraphs
Formatting a Document. Bold, italic and underline,
Changing case.
Using the undo feature, Alignment of paragraphs.
Setting the default font and using the 'format painter'Page Formatting, Helpful hints in setting up documents.
Margins, Page Setup, Page Breaks, Page Numbering.Word Tools, Cut, copy and paste.
Using Spell Check, Using the Thesaurus.
'Auto" features. Word counting.

A course manual is provided, but students should also bring their own pens and paper for additional notes.
