The Linux SIG, formerly called the Northern Suburbs Linux SIG, currently meets online via Zoom. Meetings are held on the 3rd Monday of the month with the exception of December when there is no meeting - too close to Christmas! Scroll down for details of upcoming meeting dates.
Meetings commence at approx 8.00 pm, with connections available from approx 7.45 pm so that attendees have some time to tweak their connection if necessary and have a preliminary chat before the main presentation starts.
The SIG was originally started in response to the interest expressed by MelbPC members in the Ivanhoe/Watsonia area who wanted to become more proficient with Linux and the applications that come with it. Since 2020, when the SIG moved to online meetings, members and guests from all over Melbourne are able to join in.
Our meetings usually have a presentation on a topic of interest - often related to desktop/laptop oriented Linux distributions and their features but occasionally other free/open source topics, followed by a Q&A session and some general discussion.
We welcome questions from computer users who are considering trying out Linux on their machines, especially if they are interested in continuing to use existing computers which are no longer suitable for mainstream commercial operating systems and software.
For members of Melbourne PC User Group, you can register your interest in our SIG meetings by logging on to your member account and subscribing to the Linux SIG to receive our normal monthly meeting emails.
Interested persons who are not yet members can indicate an interest in the SIG activities by filling out the email registration dialogue under the heading "Non-Members Welcome" on this web page. Completing this registration will enable you to receive our monthly meeting email notifications.
If you would like to obtain more information about the SIG, send an email to the group address at nslig@melbpc.org.au
